The Challenge of Adopting Electric Pickup Trucks in the Agricultural Industry

While automakers like Ford, are investing $665M CAD in their electric truck innovation division, industries in Alberta and Saskatchewan are not interested. Despite Ford’s efforts to launch its electric F-150 to Canadian markets by 2021, Canadian truck users are not convinced it will fit their needs for commercial use.

Canada’s auto market has seen the larger vehicle segments growth at faster rates than smaller vehicle segments. Many local auto dealers who would see electric pickup truck inventory have hopes that the manufacturers ease into the market space.

In provinces like Alberta and Saskatchewan, the charging infrastructure is minimal in the agricultural communities, which may create worker downtime for charging breaks.

Hybrids in these types of markets may be more suitable options to make a change in the commercial vehicle industry.
